LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - Local filmmaker, Marko Sakren, premiered his first independent film, clover's movie, to a packed house at Regal Cinemas Village Square on March 2. Moreover, nearly 90 people attended a pre-show Press and Industry Reception at Bertolini's on West Sahara. Compliments have been plentiful. "By all accounts, this Premiere was a tremendous success!" says Sakren. Now clover's movie is on DVD and on sale at www.cloversmovie.com, by calling 702.242.5800 (MasterCard/Visa accepted), and in Las Vegas at Tower Records (Sahara & Decatur) and Borders Books on Rainbow (Lake Mead & 95).
The DVD features: the complete Director's Cut (with 30 minutes of additional scenes from the kid's journey not seen at the Premiere including a romantic interest, an encounter with a drag queen, and four optional endings to the story); a Player's Cut (an interactive game based on the movie); and other surprises.
Sakren believes strongly in the future of Las Vegas (the "Entertainment Capital of the World") as a place where original product can be created with great financial success for both motion picture and television markets. While others in town are making their own contributions to this effort, Sakren is making his mark with his own brand of filmmaking that embraces the basic elements of worthwhile entertainment: a great story, great dialogue, great acting, great editing, and great music. "Even though clover's movie was produced on a shoestring budget," Sakren explains, "it manages to capture the imagination, especially considering the way in which it was made. I am very proud of my first film and all the people who helped make it happen." GO TO SYNOPSIS
The movie stars Brandon Dooley as Jamey, Lara Mazour as Raine, and Joe LaDue (who is also an Executive Producer) as Jack McGinnis, the main character's long-lost father. LaDue is the most recognizable in the cast. An accomplished and seasoned actor, he is most famous for his lead role on The Young and the Restless which aired in the late 70s and early 80s. Since then he has guest starred in dozens of TV shows and has been cast in character roles in such movies as Indecent Proposal, Fools Rush In, Casino, and Ocean's Eleven. His partnership with Sakren began in 1996 during Sakren's location scouting and casting days for clover's movie. Joe grew up in Las Vegas and knows this town and, for that matter, much of Nevada like the back of his hand. For both Sakren and LaDue, their goal is united: help turn Las Vegas into a booming motion picture production town, not just a backlot for Hollywood.
Plans for Sakren's next project are already in the works. The setting? Where else but Las Vegas and rural Nevada. The story centers around a suburban couple who decide to get away for the weekend to a sleepy little town that turns out to be a nesting place for UFOs and the supernatural. The couple end up ironing out the kinks in their marriage in the process. Sakren describes the story as "drama/sci-fi with good humor and a surprise ending."
